MV Compass ("we," "our," or "us") is committed to protecting your privacy. This Privacy Policy explains how we collect, use, disclose, and safeguard your information when you use our mobile application and website.

1. Information We Collect

When you create an account, we may collect:

• Profile photo
• Biographical information
• Location information (when you indicate you're on the island)

1.2 Event Information

When you create or interact with events, we collect:

• Event details (title, description, date, time, location)
• RSVP status
• Comments and interactions
• Photos and media you upload

1.3 Usage Data

We automatically collect certain information when you use our service:

• Device information (type, operating system, unique identifiers)
• Log data (IP address, browser type, pages visited)

Note: We do not currently use third-party analytics services. Usage data is collected solely for improving our service and is not shared with external analytics providers.

• Provide, maintain, and improve our services
• Create and manage your account
• Facilitate event discovery and social connections
• Send you notifications about events and activity
• Respond to your inquiries and provide customer support

3. Information Sharing and Disclosure

3.1 Public Information

Certain information is public by default:

• Public events you create
• Your profile information (unless set to private)
• Comments and interactions on public events

3.2 With Other Users

We share information with other users based on your privacy settings and the features you use (e.g., friend connections, event RSVPs).

3.3 Service Providers

We may share information with third-party service providers who perform services on our behalf:

• Cloud Hosting: We use the Manus platform for secure cloud infrastructure and hosting
• Authentication: We use Manus OAuth (which integrates with Google and Apple Sign In) for secure account authentication
• Maps: We use Google Maps to display event locations and provide location-based features
• Push Notifications: We use platform-native push notification services (Apple Push Notification Service for iOS, Firebase Cloud Messaging for Android)

We do not sell your personal information to third parties.

3.4 Legal Requirements

We may disclose your information if required by law or in response to valid legal requests.

4. Data Security

We implement appropriate technical and organizational measures to protect your personal information against unauthorized access, alteration, disclosure, or destruction. However, no method of transmission over the Internet or electronic storage is 100% secure.

5. Your Privacy Rights

You have the right to:

• Access: Request a copy of your personal information
• Correction: Update or correct your information through your profile settings
• Deletion: Delete your account directly within the app settings. Upon deletion, your personal data will be permanently removed from our active systems, subject to any legal retention requirements
• Opt-Out: Unsubscribe from marketing communications and manage notification preferences
• Privacy Controls: Manage your profile visibility and privacy settings

6. Children's Privacy

Our service is not intended for children under 13 years of age. We do not knowingly collect personal information from children under 13. If you believe we have collected information from a child under 13, please contact us immediately.

7. Location Data

We do not collect precise background GPS location data. Location information in MV Compass is limited to:

• On Island Status: A user-controlled toggle indicating whether you are currently on Martha's Vineyard (no GPS coordinates collected)
• Event Locations: Address information you manually enter when creating events
• Map Usage: When you use Google Maps features within the app to view event locations

We do not track your physical location in the background or collect GPS coordinates without your explicit action.

8. Push Notifications

With your consent, we send push notifications about:

• Event reminders
• Friend requests and social activity
• Event updates and announcements

You can disable push notifications in your device settings or app preferences.

9. Data Retention

We retain your personal information for as long as your account is active or as needed to provide services. You may delete your account at any time directly within the app settings. Upon account deletion, we will permanently remove your personal data from our active systems within 30 days, except where retention is required by law.

10. Advertising and Tracking

We do not use your information for third-party advertising or cross-app tracking. MV Compass does not:

• Use advertising networks
• Track your activity across other apps or websites
• Use your data for behavioral advertising
• Share your information with data brokers

11. International Data Transfers

Your information may be transferred to and processed in countries other than your country of residence. We ensure appropriate safeguards are in place to protect your information.

12. Changes to This Privacy Policy

We may update this Privacy Policy from time to time. We will notify you of any material changes by posting the new Privacy Policy on this page and updating the "Last Updated" date.
